The United Kingdom may be renowned for its grey skies and cups of tea, but in the far southwest of the island, paradisiacal surf spots await to be discovered. When the sun shines, Cornwall looks unlike any other surf destination. It is characterized by steep cliffs, turquoise pools, and playful beach breaks, many of which are still relatively uncrowded, especially outside of school holidays. From north to south, we have gathered some of our favorite destinations for you to explore and enjoy (but no secret spots, of course!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go surfing in Bude and North Cornwall<\/h2>\n\n\n

In north Cornwall, between Bude and Polzeath, there are a number of beach breaks including Summerleaze<\/strong> in Bude Widemouth<\/strong>, Sandymouth<\/strong>, Northcott<\/strong> and beach Polzeath<\/strong> elle-m\u00eame. Toutes ces plages sont principalement de sable, deviennent tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quent\u00e9es en \u00e9t\u00e9 et sont accessibles \u00e0 pied depuis un pub ! Si vous restez \u00e0 Bude sans moyen de transport, il est facile de surfer sur les plages de la ville. Tous ces spots fonctionnent mieux \u00e0 mar\u00e9e basse ou moyenne. Toutefois, il est possible de surfer jusqu’\u00e0 mar\u00e9e haute \u00e0 Widemouth et Polzeath. Il y a \u00e9galement un certain nombre d’\u00e9coles de surf \u00e0 chaque endroit, ainsi que de nombreux campings et lieux de stationnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you head down the coast you\u2019ll come to Harlyn Bay,<\/strong> populaire aupr\u00e8s des d\u00e9butants car les vagues sont souvent petites et douces. Cependant, les jours de grosse temp\u00eate, c’est aussi le point de chute id\u00e9al car il est abrit\u00e9 et orient\u00e9 vers le nord. Le beach break est relativement peu accident\u00e9, on peut y surfer \u00e0 toutes les mar\u00e9es et il est tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quent\u00e9 en \u00e9t\u00e9 et pendant les temp\u00eates. Il y a un \u00e9norme parking et un arr\u00eat de bus \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la plage. Autour du cap, vous trouverez la baie de Constantine, o\u00f9 il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de surfer \u00e0 mar\u00e9e haute. Cette vague est tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e des touristes et des locaux, et elle peut s’abattre dans de bonnes conditions. Faites attention aux d\u00e9chirures et aux courants forts, et si vous apprenez, assurez-vous de toujours surfer entre les drapeaux des sauveteurs. Plus loin sur la c\u00f4te, en direction de Newquay<\/strong>you will come across Mawgan Porth,<\/strong> which is a low to mid-tide spot and can also be exceptionally rippy and dangerous, especially when it\u2019s big. If you\u2019re unsure of where to jump in it\u2019s best to ask the local RNLI<\/strong> local. Un arr\u00eat suppl\u00e9mentaire autour du promontoire vous m\u00e8nera \u00e0 la superbe Watergate Bay<\/strong>, busy in the summer but well worth the crowds, you can surf this beach through all tides and the 3 miles of sands make for plenty of peaks. Each of these beaches have nearby campsites, pubs and surf schools and are beautiful places to spend the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newquay<\/strong> est comme la Gold Coast australienne du Royaume-Un. La ville bourdonne de monde, il y a des magasins de surf \u00e0 tous les coins de rue et vous pouvez vous rendre \u00e0 pied \u00e0 un grand nombre de pauses, toutes \u00e0 moins d’une demi-heure les unes des autres. Si vous apprenez ou s’il y a une grosse houle, dirigez-vous vers Towan, la plage du port, ou choisissez parmi les autres petites baies qui s’\u00e9tendent vers le nord, notamment Great Western, Tolcarne et Lusty Glaze. La r\u00e8gle g\u00e9n\u00e9rale est que plus vous vous \u00e9loignez, plus les vagues sont grosses. Si vous \u00eates plus confiant, ou si vous souhaitez progresser, rendez-vous \u00e0 Fistral, o\u00f9 vous pourrez surfer sur les spots du nord, du milieu ou du sud, quelles que soient les mar\u00e9es. Newquay est un v\u00e9ritable tr\u00e9sor d’endroits o\u00f9 manger, boire, dormir et faire la f\u00eate, sans oublier les nombreuses \u00e9coles de surf si vous voulez prendre des cours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further along the coast, you will come across one of the longest, if not the longest, beach in Cornwall: Perranporth<\/strong>. The town is filled with shops and restaurants, many of which spill onto the sand. There are plenty of surf schools and shops as well. It's best to surf on the beach at low to mid-tide, and the northern end of the beach gets cut off at high tide, so make sure not to get stranded there! Heading south, there's Porthtowan<\/strong>, which pumps in good conditions and handles big swells unlike many beaches in Cornwall, but the rip currents can be dangerous, and on big days, the waves are suitable only for local and experienced surfers. Sometimes overlooked, Portreath<\/strong> provides good protection from strong southwest winds and is highly regarded by bodyboarders and surfers on stormy days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stretch of beach leading up to St. Ives works on low \u2013 mid, occasionally at high, and is super popular. Godrevy<\/strong>right in front of the famous lighthouse, can produce world class, wall-y waves that are steep, fast and sometimes hollow, whereas heading further south the beach becomes Gwithian<\/strong>, plus douce et plus maniable, un des favoris des longboarders et des single fins. Plus vous pagayez vers le sud, plus les vagues deviennent petites et abrit\u00e9es, chaque petite section de plage portant son propre nom, jusqu’\u00e0 ce que vous atteigniez l’embouchure de la river mouth.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you arrive in St. Ives, you'll feel like you're exploring the real Cornwall. The pretty white-washed houses that line the narrow cobbled streets all have colorful doors and window frames, and fishing boats sail on the calm ocean. Here, you can surf in the harbor on stormy days or at Porthmeor when conditions are right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surf In sennen - Cornwall\nTowards Cornwall\u2019s famous landmark of Land’s End<\/strong> , you will hit surf town Sennen, with it\u2019s tight-knit crew of locals, surf schools, fish and chips shops and pub. You can surf Sennen<\/strong> and Gwynver<\/strong> au gr\u00e9 des mar\u00e9es, et il y a de nombreux campings \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 si vous avez besoin d’un endroit pour vous loger. Towards the famous landmark of Land's End in Cornwall, you'll head to Sennen, the surfing town, with its tight-knit community of locals, surf schools, fishmongers, and pub. You can surf at Sennen and Gwynver depending on the tides, and there are plenty of campsites nearby if you need a place to stay. Both beaches are offshore, facing eastward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go surfing in Heading South<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Exploring further south is best during the low season when the swell wraps around, and you can find sheltered spots from the prevailing strong winds. Many of these places are hidden gems, and the only way to discover them is by asking the locals, doing research, or pulling out an old-fashioned map.
